Growing up as a small town girl in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, no one could have imagined the cute blonde who was more likely to be out in the wilderness with her dad hunting and fishing, than glammin’ it up with the girls, would be making it big in the modeling industry. But that’s exactly what Heather Jo has done.
We’ve mentioned Heather has both beauty and brains, but more importantly, she has a heart of gold. The pictures speak for themselves, but the interview shows how amazing Heather truly is.
Interview with Heather
Who are you?
I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. It’s a growing town but has a small town feel. I grew up climbing trees, fishing and hunting with dad, and going on family camping trips. I’ve always loved the outdoors.
Can you describe yourself in five words?
Lol I’m a lot of things but I would say I’m a little quirky, have always been a goof ball, outgoing, persistent, and often unpredictable.
Where do you go to school, and what are you studying?
I attend South Dakota State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Spanish.
When and how did you get into modeling?
Ever since I was a little girl, my parents had always submitted my photos into photo contests. I won my first contest at the age of 3 and went on to do other things. At the age of 7, I was crowned Miss Sioux Falls and was involved in several parades and charity events. I had my first professional modeling photo shoot at the age of 15 and attending a modeling convention in Orlando, FL where I placed in several categories. From there I caught the eye of a Los Angeles photographer with my online portfolio and have been shooting ever since.
What was the react of your family when they found out you posed in Playboy?
When I first got the initial offer from Playboy, I went straight to my dad and asked him what he thought about it. Family has always been one of my priorities in life and I would never do anything to make them look down on me or be ashamed of me. My dad just told me to outweigh the pro’s and the con’s and if I felt that it was something that I really wanted to do and thought it was going to be a positive thing in my career, then to go for it. With my family’s support behind me, I took the opportunity and ran with it.
With so many women in the industry, what separates you from everyone else trying to make it big?
Personality. Pretty girls are a dime a dozen. It’s a positive, easy-going attitude that gets you called back. Women that walk into the industry thinking they are already “divas” or women that are “full of themselves” never make it very far. Confidence is key, but stay humble and don’t forget where you came from, or it’s easy to get lost in the industry.
If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing?
My dream job I think would be being a SCUBA instructor. I love the beach, and I love the water. It would be amazing to be out on the beach everyday exploring the depths of the sea. It’s one of the most relaxing sports I’ve ever experienced and the weightless feeling is unreal.
As a PADI certified Scuba Diver, how many dives do you think you’ve done?
Too many to count, but not enough : )
What’s the coolest thing you’ve experienced while diving?
Everything under the water is neat. From the snapping shrimp to the songs of the whales off in the distance, the sounds alone are incredible. I love the sea turtles. They’re always so curious and will swim right up to you as if to say “hello” and then away they glide.
Who is your celebrity crush?
If you could learn to do one thing, what would it be?
I want to get my pilot’s license for recreation purposes. My dad had his pilot’s license at the age of 17 and it’s always been something that I’ve wanted to do. There’s a small airport near my home that offers aviation instruction, and as soon as I get the time, I want to start clocking flight hours.
What turns you on?
A sense of humor and a confident smile. Life is too short to not enjoy it. Loosen up, don’t be so serious, and have some fun.
What turns you off?
My biggest turn off ever, is when a man is rude to a waitress. You can learn a lot about someone by watching how they treat others around them.
Top of Bottom?
What do you feel most comfortable wearing?
Baseball cap, bluejeans and a t-shirt.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
Buy my parents a house.
If you had three wishes, what would you ask for?
Hmmmmm….. Probably Bob Barker in my front lawn wearing an Elvis suite , with the flash mob, a dinosaur, half a cheese-it cracker, 3 singing nuns and one oak leaf.
If we pushed play on your iPod, what would we most likely hear?
Lol my iPod is so random, I think the question should be, “What wouldn’t we hear?” I love everything from Country, Rock, Rap, Heavymetal, Guitar Music, German music, Latin music, Oldies, Classic rock… ect. Just depends on what type of mood I’m in that day.
Where can we see more of you in the future?
I have a few things in the works right now, but can’t talk about them until everything is finalized. I keep an open mind, and I myself am not really sure what the future holds. One thing I do know though, whatever it is, and where ever life takes me, it will be an adventure and that’s what living life is all about.
You got that right! Thanks Heather.
