Certain people are born with a natural look and if you are familiar with the industry, you know that as soon as the camera start snapping photos, that natural look has the ability to change good girl next door, to the girl every guy wants living next door… or in this case… 2DoorsDown! Meet the one and only, Alyshia Ashlee!
Alyshia grew up in British Columbia and was modeling almost as early as she could walk, becoming one of the faces of ‘Please Mum’, a kids clothing store based in Western Canada. By the age of 12, she attended a casting in Barrie for a competition held in New York… and was selected as a finalist.
With a minor hiatus to focus on school and life (as anyone should), Alyshia popped back into modeling when she competed in Barrie again at Barrie’s Next Top Model, earning a spot in the final, helping her get further noticed. In the last 5 years, she’s shot with dozens of photographers, worked with IMAGO, fashion shows/events, been featured on various boudoir prints and was a body paint model for BRAVO body art.
Like any other beautiful Canadian blonde bombshell, Alyshia has plans to make it big in the industry with features in publications such as Playboy, Maxim, American Curves and other Men’s magazines. She also one day hopes to be a host on Playboy TV… and we’d certainly watch!
Interview with Alyshia Ashlee
Who are you?
I am Alyshia Ashlee, I am 21 years old, a freelance model, makeup artist for Lancôme, and an absolute cat lover. Oh, and I am a Virgo. I was born in Canada in a small town called Leamington and just so happened to be baby number 3000, which is odd I know. My family’s background is Irish, French and Native, although I definitely have taken all of the Irish genes. I am currently in the Toronto area, and absolutely loving it. I have big dreams, and an even bigger future - I can feel it.
What 5 words best describe you?
Ambitious – Funny – Smart – Passionate – Determined.
What do you like most about living in Toronto?
I love the diversity. I love that the city never sleeps. I hate to be bored and I find the subway system as interesting as a movie – If all else fails watch people. They are far more interesting.
You recently lived in Mexico for a few months. What were you doing there and what was the experience like? What two things come to mind as your favourite, and least favourite moments?
Ha – I did live in Mexico for a few months, and it was absolutely amazing. I lived there for a few months simply to get away, I had some personal safety issues living in Toronto and my parents reside in Mexico, so it made sense to go there to ‘get away’. The experience was absolutely amazing, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. My cat Mr. Kitty came with me so that topped things off – but love triumphs all so I came back to be with my phenomenal boyfriend. I feel like every moment was my favourite moment, but I suppose the fun dinners with my parents were on the top of that list. If ever people are going to Mexico, I highly suggest going to Merida. It is safe, clean, and authentic. There is amazing food, amazing people, and enough English speakers to get buy . I can’t say I have a least favourite moment, but probably just when I was missing my brother, boyfriend and family back in Canada.
How and when did you get into modeling?
I started modeling as a child when I lived in B.C. for a clothing company called ‘Please Mum’. I later moved to Ontario and was more into my gymnastics at that time. When I was 12 years old, I started to get that modeling itch again, and I needed to scratch it. I heard a commercial about a model casting and went to it, and made it to the final cut to go to New York for the remainder of the competition. I of course wasn’t tall enough to catch enough eyes, so after feeling defeated I didn’t model again until I was 14. At 14, my mother was walking through a local mall and saw a competition called “Barrie’s Next Top Model’ and asked me if I wanted to see if I qualify, and surely enough I did. I won Miss photogenic a few times, but did not end up winning over all. After that I started to realize I really love the makeup aspect of modeling as well, and started doing makeup for shoots with a local Barrie photographer. At about 17 I later met Steve Locke, a now dear friend and amazing virgo partner in creating stunning images. I was doing makeup for a multi model shoot and he asked me if I ever modeled. I mention here and there, but nothing too serious and he insisted I get in front of his camera. I guess you could say this is when the monster really got created. Before shooting with Steve I don’t think I really saw my true potential, he is a master at lighting and is a true perfectionist, much like myself, now the rest in history. Steve shot my first lingerie set, and the modeling itch still continues, and won’t stop until I reach the top.
Besides modeling, you also are a professional make-up artist. What kind of work have you done, and how can people contact you if they’re interested in your services?
I have done makeup with various photographers, and on some amazing shoots. I also specialize in lessons and work with many brides. I offer personal shopping for makeup, as some people simply do not have a clue what to get, and do not have the time to go through it with me. I have worked as a makeup artist for John Donato salons, and currently work with Lancôme. Some of my work can be found on my website www.alyshiaashleemakeup.com.
What would you consider your biggest accomplishment in both life and modeling?
In life I would say growing up to be a smart, independent person, with a head on my shoulders. I see so many women these days who rely on men to get them by, and put up with a lot because they get comfortable with the things that they get given. I also see that in this industry a lot of people will do ANYTHING to get ANYWHERE. I would rather be successful based on talent, and ambition alone.
I would say as far as modeling my biggest accomplishment would have to be making it into the Playboy Cyber club, while staying true to myself, and not feeling pressure to enhance my body.
With so many beautiful blondes trying to make it big in the industry, what do you feel separates you from the rest of the competition?
I would have to say my focus and personality would have a lot to do with it – I think people can tell that I am a genuine person and that I am here for the right reasons. Also being one of the few natural unenhanced models definitely separates me from the rest. In a world of so much plastic, I find that people really notice when you’re not. Sometimes I feel the pressure, and wonder if I would be farther along if I tweaked parts of me, but then I wouldn’t be me, and ME has gotten me this far.
Do you have any magazines or website on your bucket list?
Oh boy , I have a bucket list a mile long , I want to be featured everywhere haha. I want a Cover, and spread in Playboy, or any of Playboy’s partners around the world. I would love to be in Maxim, and Toro magazine. I definitely want to be published internationally, and think my look would go over well in different parts of the world. I would love to be a sponsored model by Look swimwear, and I am starting to feel an interest in hosting. Imagine I had my own show!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we pushed play on your iPod, what would we most likely hear?
Dear Professor – The Dean’s List, it just makes me feel good.
Nero, Nicki Minaj, My Darkest Days, Eminem. . Oh god, I have such a mixture.
What is the last thing you laughed out loud at?
www.damnyouautocorrect.com oh my god that site is funny. If you’re in a rut, definitely, and I mean definitely, hit up that site, and you will instantly feel better.
If you had three wishes, what would you ask for?
Health, Success (to my standards), Happiness.
If you were stranded on an island, what is one thing you couldn’t be without?
If you wrote an auto-biography, what would you name it?
That is actually the toughest question, but I guess I should start thinking it up now : ) Maybe I would keep it along the lines of my website, Alyshia Ashlee : Model 2 Doors Down.
What do you like most about your body? What do you like guys like most?
I like my booty, it always fills my jeans out just right. I don’t know for sure but I would say, my Booty or Boobies. haha Guys seem to love both of those. Or my eyes. . . how cliché.
If you could have a one night stand with a celebrity, who would it be?
Jenna Jameson – I have said it before and I will say it again. She is so confident and has such a bold personality.
What turns you on?
Confidence, and ambition. I also love a sense of humour because I am constantly cracking jokes… and its usually when I am not trying too.
What turns you off?
Rude, cocky, controlling people. Know the difference between confidence and cockiness, I can’t stand people with that ‘Gods gift to people’ thing going on.
Where’s the craziest or riskiest place you’ve hooked up with someone?
Outside of a subway stop, there was a nice tree’d area by the last place I lived, and it was right before I moved to Mexico.
Do you have any tattoos or piercings? If so, how many and where?
I have 2 tattoos, both on my wrist area. Left wrist has FAME written, and the Right is a peace symbol, but its the hands giving the peace sign, not just some circle. My ears are pierced multiple times, about 8 I believe, haha, and my belly button. I used to have my nose pierced, but got bored in Mexico and took it out… Kind of want it back.
Do you have any obsessions?
Probably just my Cat. He’s so Purrrrrfect. hahaha
What is your dream photo shoot?
A Shoot for a major magazine (I won’t even be picky), but it should involve fine jewelry, and large exotic animals.
Any final words for your fans and the readers of Lions Den U?
Thank you for reading up on me and for all the support. Also I must leave you with one last message, and it is my absolute favourite quote to live by.
Your outlook on life is a direct reflection of how much you like yourself.
It’s beyond true.
Well said! We’ll leave fans with this smokin’ hot gallery of your best pics! ♥
