Vancouver 2010 Olympics – Day 8: Going for Gold [02/19/10]

Day 8 will bring the chance for Manny Osborne-Paradis to redeem himself in the Men’s Super G’ after he performed horribly in the Men’s Downhill. So much for that home-hill advantage. If Manny can’t do it, at least we can count on Melissa Hollingsworth to do well in the Woman’s Skeleton.

Manuel Osborne-Paradis – Can Manny Redeem Himself?

When Manuel Osborne-Paradis was supposed to ski the first day in the Men’s Downhill, everyone thought he’d be on the podium. When it got postponed to Day 4, everyone expected the lack of practice runs for other skiers would benefit Osborne-Paradis. Boy was everyone wrong. Dude placed 17th!!!! Unfortunately for Osborne-Paradis, he best event is the downhill and quite honestly, will need to ski the best runs of his life to stand a chance. Yes, he has won a Super-G event this year at Lake Louise but as were seen so far, anything can happen on any given day. Where will Manny place in the Super G? Podium? or a horrible 17th?

Skeleton – Woman’s Skeleton
Melissa Hollingsworth – Hurling Herself Toward Skeleton Gold

On Melissa Hollingsworth website she states as her mission statement “I no longer hit the start line to participate in races… I’m now focused on sliding to the podium and winning each time I put on the Canadian uniform”. I hate to say that a woman has balls… but damn, you think luge is crazy, try hurtling down a ice track, head first, with your chin inches from the surface… balls. Hollingsworth won the bronze in Turin (first ever Canadian to capture a medal in Skeleton), and is peaking right before the games. Hollingsworth won gold in January in Germany at a World Cup event, setting a track record in the process. She is the woman to beat with 2 wins, 1 silver and 2 bronze thus far on the world-cup circuit. Go get the gold you deserve.
