Obama Drama

Barack Obama has just won the Nobel Prize for peace in 2009. Congratulations Obama, you are the first peace prize winner to also be in charge of a major war on not just one but two countries! What did you do to win this prestigious award? Oh right, according to the selection committee you won for, “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”. Your effort and good hustle paid off man! You didn’t even need to do anything. If the rest of the world worked this way the Detroit Lions would have already won the Super bowl because of their outstanding effort this year.
Not only is this win controversial but it puts Obama in league with prestigious past winners who actually made a difference towards lasting peace like Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela. Obama himself was even shocked to hear he had won. Maybe the Nobel committee decided it was best to just give the award to Obama and avoid another Kanye rant. It will be interesting to see who Obama beat in order to secure this big win. Too bad the other nominees aren’t released for another 50 years. I guess the committee feels that if they screw up one year people will have time to cool off, forget, and die.
In short, Obama, enjoy your award and the 1.5 million dollar payday it comes with. It’s not like you need it, you’re one of the 88% of people who are employed in your country. I’m pretty sure this counts as a conflict of interest but go ahead accept the money while in office, you deserve it, just like those guys who you criticized at AIG for getting million dollar bonuses during the peak of the recession. Or is that another contradiction, like being the leader of a country that continues to remain in the largest war(s) going and still winning a Nobel Peace prize? Who knows, maybe the people you were up against this year were Muammar al-Gaddafi, Kim Jong-il, Matt Damon, and Bono. Clearly, you should have won. According to your acceptance speech winning a Nobel prize is on the same level as your dog’s birthday, no big deal. Classy comparison, maybe one day I’ll be friends with Oprah and get elected president too.

Very Well Stated!
*thumbs up*
In his defence, the weapon’s race led to World War Two and his efforts to halt the spread of nuclear weapons is admirable. I am sure someone with more knowledge on this topic than me could argue that another world war may have taken place based in the middle east if the Republicans had won another term. With the technology of today, the escalation of violence takes place with words as much as weapons and people often don’t give words the credence they are due. His efforts to spread peace begin with his message and his words. They are in stark contrast to his predecessor’s and he deserves this prize based solely on his speech at the UN a couple of weeks ago, if nothing else.
Also, when mentioning great past winners, don’t forget our own Canadian prime minister who won the prize in the 60’s for implementing peacekeeping troops!
Hater. Such a hater. You can’t even imagine what it would be like in this great man’s position. Keep the comments from the peanut gallery to a minimum as they have ZERO validity and are sad to read.
hey i also think that knocking obama is cool
next time… he should NOT win the peace prize!!!!!!!!
Actions, not words.
you right wingers amaze me. not only are you stupid but back it up with a post from fox news. FOX NEWS? seriously, thats like watching a cartoon show. Although I admit the fact Obama has not done enough to warrant such an award. May I remind you he never was the one that started that war or wars. Not to mention his willingness to remove missile shields in Russia and even start talks to disarm others. Your ignorance amazes me. He DOES NOT deserve this award, but nor should he be subjected to references to communism, facism, or the joker. You people are fucked up. seek help.
ps. so what if Obama is rich now? do you even know what he had to go through to get rich. Its called hard work and education. Try it.
Reid, relax, the Fox reference was for video content which doesn’t hold any merit to the article itself.
Obama is the most well spoken corporate representative ever puppeted. He acts and smells of a great, admirable man. I wouldn’t go on record to say anything negative about him specifically. I think he’s an incredible man, and his rhetoric alone does seem worthy of the highest recognition. However, rhetoric does not mean action, nor does it mean implementation and “change”. He’s the new face of the same apparitions that have created the America that you all refer to with negative connotation. Alluding to our ignorance might be ironic because you yourself should know even the wonderful President Obama is imprisoned in the same endless cell that all other American leaders have waned in. He just represents a much more progressive, hopeful face to leave America mindless and trusting to a system that only serves to continue it’s path. Where that path leads? You tell me, you’re the genius.
If you’re serious about alternative education, seriously watch this and come back on here and we’ll discuss this at more length.

While there is no doubt that Obama is less than deserving of this award, it seems somewhat disingenuous to use this as an opportunity to criticize Obama, as opposed to, say, the Nobel Prize Committee.
If you will permit me to be so blunt, such a vicious ad hominem assault suggests the presence of certain irrational prejudices, possibly of a racialized character.

So was it racism during the “derangement syndrome” America had during the Bush Jr. tenure? You’re the typical village idiot that pushes “racism” and “prejudice” on anyone’s opinion.
Amadrilena, great video. Puts into perspective a lot of things we are overlooking, most notably that a large number of Nobel Peace Prizes are awarded for inspiring change and peace, not necessarily creating it. Thanks for sharing that.
Kerrtis with all do respect but you can’t reference a documentary thats made by a far right-wing host: Alex Jones. Clearly, it is a biased intake on things, will I won’t argue about whether american leaders are puppets in a system or not thats up to people to decide.
But, on the award, speaking of “racism” this award will lead to worst implications then profiling. It will only increase attacks from the right-wing on “affirmative action”, as a black man I am upset because for one it just gives folks more ignorant uneducated and foul assumptions to assume that everything is a product of “affirmative action”.
I won’t make an assumption about political affiliations but for all to know, the great Henry Kissinger, while admirable as an academic and certainly a historical political game changer did win a Nobel while making some of the most controversial war decisions in any living human beings life most notable his bombing of then neutral Cambodia and his many decisions in Vietnam(which everyone, including Americans can argue was a train wreck of mistakes)
I think the point my most esteemed colleague is driving at is you seem to have an unjustifiably massive hard-on for hating Obama. You should get it looked at, those things aren’t supposed to last more than 5 hours.
LOL oh man Al Gore great contribution. Until another premature ejaculation by fox, life goes on.
I doubt a little comedic criticism ever hurt anyone in the White House. Any racial over or undertones percieved are strictly that, percieved. Some people read with a certain voice and I guess for some that voice is to seek out and over react to everything and interpret it as racism. Political criticism is not racism in this case but judging from your use of “ad hominem” you probably just finished a critical thinking class and thought you’d try out your under developed skill set.
Let’s delve into this further, from your class you probably also remember the fallacy of improper authority. Claiming to be of an ethnic origin and saying you are offended by something does not mean that thing is racist. It just means you were offended and that is great that just means you can’t take a joke because that is all this appears to be. Especially considering the context of the website that this appears on I doubt it was attempting to be serious. Although I heard Michael Richards writes for this site so you might have something.
I have it on good authority that the renowned harbinger of peace that you so flippantly criticize has in fact completed his logic training long ago. Fortunately knowledge sticks in his brain like a fly in amber, so the finer points of Latin have not been lost over the years.
I also fail to comprehend how anything my Palestinian comrade stated could be construed as an argumentum ad verecundium. Perhaps you misunderstand the term. At the risk of coming across as didactic, claiming an argumentum ad verecundium typically requires your opposite to have appealed to an improper authority, something that is clearly lacking in Arafat’s post.
If the author intended to generate debate, well done; if you actually think you had an argument, let’s settle this.
The article itself doesnt even warrent a reply. If this author even tried to define the award criteria, list other winners and their accomplishments, or count backwards from 10 before writing the article, he would have failed in all three categories. This illustrates that he knows nothing about why Mr. Nobel started the award and who it is typically given to, and hence, who should receive the award. As for the replies, those were a lot more informative and useful. I enjoyed reading them.
Advice to Nemean: If you don’t know anything about what Obama has done, what the committee said as reason for his winning, past winners or even why the award exist, don’t write hateful articles about the award and its winners. Write a tasteful article saying, “I don’t understand why he won! It seems to my limited knowledge base that he shouldn’t have! Who knows why he may have and can you help me form a real opinion?” This will help you not sound like such an ass.
I think it is best said by Arafat, “it seems somewhat disingenuous to use this as an opportunity to criticize Obama, as opposed to, say, the Nobel Prize Committee.”
Nemean. I think they got you.
I really enjoy the pic of Obama as The Joker though
