Hold on to your sombrero’s ladies & gents, Krystal Love is here with another sexy mamacita for this week’s Monday Morning Mistress! To add to our list of Latin sensations, meet Chantel Zales! If you haven’t noticed, I have a thing for smart & sexy Latina girls, so it was definitely a pleasure doing this interview!
From being internationally published, to gracing the big-screen, Chantel makes it very clear to all of us at Lion’s Den U that she was made for showbiz! Not only is she young, beautiful & talented, but she has the kind of drive & determination that is rare to find in such a cut-throat industry.
Interview With Chantel:
Who are you?
My full name is Chantel Elena Zales, and I am Costa Rican and Mexican. I was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Phoenix, Arizona my whole life. I moved to LA about a year and a half ago, and never looked back.
What 5 words best describe you?
Passionate, vixen, playful, Latina & exotic.
Where and what did you study in school?
I went to ASU for a few years but never finished. I was always staring out of the classroom window, dying to start my life. I studied Chicano Latino Studies, as well as film and media production.
A few friends and I founded an ASU organization for Latinos to raise money for political causes, and for Latino students to have a support system on campus, and a computer room to do their work in.
When and how did you get into modeling?
I started doing runway shows in Scottsdale, AZ, which led to exposure that brought more paid photo shoots and events. I did spokes modeling for many years, and my agency at the time flew me all across the US to do expos and trade-shows.
I loved traveling! I think I was born for it, because I never get stressed out, and it always relaxes me to see other parts of the US.
You’ve had a number of magazine features so far. Which one was the most memorable experience?
Working with Show Magazine was a blast! The photographer, Sean Cummings, works so fast, and he made me feel comfortable right away.
There was a film called Take Me Home Tonight with Topher Grace that I did when I had just turned 18. It was definitely the most memorable, because I was on set for 20 days, and made friends that I still speak with to this day.
The movie was set in the 80′s, so they spent a lot of time every day on poofing my hair to the ceiling, and doing my makeup with bright red lips.
Promotional appearances seem to come as second nature to you. Do you consider yourself a party girl?
I consider myself extremely focused and hard working, but there also has to be a balance of enjoying life as well. Sometimes partying is part of the job, and I love it as long as it doesn’t interfere with my career.
One of the companies I work for is owned by a husband/wife duo that I’ve come to know and love. We have 10 hour days at lingerie conventions, then we would all go out together later in the night and unwind. Nothing wrong with that!
For someone so young, you seem to already do it all! What aspect of your career do you want to be most known for?
I would love to do more magazine features, build my name into a brand for when I am older, and retire from modeling while using my name to help with my later business ventures. I love to work, and one of my goals is to own a few of my own businesses, so that I can leave my future children with something to run later on.
What do you do with FanBase Promotions?
I started out by hiring ring girls for boxing fights on ESPN and other channels. The company started getting busier, and I later became the Account Executive, assisting in acquiring sponsorship for the fights.
I greatly value all my time with FanBase Promotions, because I learned so much from them.
With so much competition in the industry, what makes you standout?
I have a lot of drive and determination. I see beautiful girls everyday that give up, because they have zero self confidence, and in this industry what you look like is only half of the battle. It also takes patience, self-discipline, a good workout regimen and focus.
What has been your favourite personal accomplishment so far?
I know people move to LA everyday, but I look back and realize that I literally knew no one when I moved here, so I’m proud of both how independent I am, and how far I have come in such a little time.
Who is your celebrity crush?
There’s just something about Robert Downey Jr’s attitude and free spirit! He always speaks his mind, and it always seems like whatever comes out of his mouth is so genuine, no matter how crude! I love it!
What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever said to you?
A lot of fans come right out and try to guess my bra size! I just laugh it off, and I’m always nice as long as they aren’t disrespectful
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to get a guy’s attention?
If he’s not giving me attention, I’m not going to fight for it, because I’m old fashioned. I like to be the one sought after. However, I love to wear tiny skirts and half tops a lot, as it’s sort of my signature look. Sometimes I look back and laugh at my outfit choices, and how ridiculous they could be. It’s part of being young and having fun with fashion while you can
Like my grandma always told me “Mija, you have to flaunt it while you got it”
What song would be your theme song?
I’m usually into house and trance, but my theme song would have to be Aerosmith’s Crazy. It’s a beautiful love song, and I am a hopeless romantic. I am not gonna lie, every woman is a bit crazy, but at least I can admit it! hehe
Is there anything that people are surprised to find out about you?
People are surprised at how shy I can be sometimes, even though I have almost 100k followers on Facebook, and talk with fans daily in person. It takes a little for me to warm up
What was the last thing you laughed out loud at?
My bestie said this one pair of shoes made her look 10 lbs smaller, and I literally laughed so hard I cried. She is funny and I love her. Now I always tease her with things just as ridiculous, like saying that my gloves make my booty look bigger, or my bracelet make my rack look nicer!
What would the title of your autobiography be?
I would literally pay a ghostwriter to write my book, because I hate talking about myself. But if I had to choose, hmmmmm- How about “Chantel’s Secret”. I dreamed of being a Victoria’s Secret model when I was young, so that’s a very fitting title, and keeps it intriguing
What do you have planned for the future?
I plan on dominating, and taking over the world one job at a time, while remaining down to earth, goofy, silly and approachable.
