Black Roc: The Black Keys, Mos Def, Jim Jones, Raekwon, Q-Tip, and More

So I’ve been listening to the Black Keys now, and they’re absolutley amazing. You’ve actually been listening to them for a long time too and you probably never realized it. These guys have been ninja featured in more TV shows and movie scores than any other band I know. Recently they teamed up with Dame Dash to put together a music compilation called BlackRoc with some of hip-hop’s heavyweights. The video is pretty self-explanatory, but I’m especially excited to see Mos Def and Pharaoh Monche contribute to this project. For those that don’t know, Mos has been working with a blues band called Black Jack Johnson for years, with relative success, but hearing him on a Black Keys track is pure gold. RZA, Rae and Q-Tip are dope additions, although I’m not sure about the Jim Jones look, but I understand the selection in appealing to another demographic. Overall I think this has the potential to be even bigger than the NASA compilation released earlier this year, which is awesome considering the relative stagnant nature of hip-hop this year. See below for the ninja score drops the Black Keys have had over the past few years, with audio from some of my favourites.

I was reading something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your linear perspective on it is diametrically opposed to what I read before. I am still mulling over the different points of view, but I’m inclined to a great extent toward yours. And no matter, that’s what is so good about modern democracy and the marketplace of thoughts online.
